Kokomo
58.4m. (191.59') Sloop

This 58 metre sloop will be one of the largest and one of the most high performance sailing yachts in the World when she is launched in the beginning of 2010.

A lifting keel gives the yacht huge stability and its speed potential is exceptional.

Alloy Yachts will build the vessel - as they did for the previous two Kokomo's.

The challenge with regard to the engineering for the lifting keel is significant but the understanding both in terms of design and construction, from Alloy Yachts, will ensure that this area is thoroughly developed.

For example, following tank testing, a study was made, by the Wolfson Unit at Southampton University, of the forces involved if the vessel hit an immovable underwater object with the keel.

Exhaustive tests will ensure damage limitation.

Such a large yacht has its performance enhanced so significantly by deep draft but access to the World's cruising grounds must not be compromised. Hence the lifting keel concept.

We believe that Kokomo will represent, probably, the most significant advance for a vessel of her type when she is launched.
