We are delighted to report that the Dubois designed Nirvana - a 53.5 metre (175 feet) ketch - was awarded the 'Prix du Design' trophy at the 2008 Monaco Yacht Show.

The owner of Nirvana, Ed Dubois and the interior designer Josep Juanpere Mire of GCA Arquitectes in Barcelona, received the prize from His Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco on Friday September 26th.

The prize is given for the design which, in the words of the organisers, is the "most innovative, the greatest and the most distinguished".

Nirvana is the result of an intense development in large sailing yachts by Dubois and she benefits from the unique experience that the Dubois Office now has with large, fast vessels of this type. She follows the line begun by Salperton (now re-named Drumbeat) Squall, Tiara, Kokomo and Red Dragon.

Her special feature is shallow draft with a lifting centre board giving her close access to many of the world's bays and harbours that might otherwise be prohibited.

The outside appearance is certainly that of a Dubois design but she is also distinctive in many areas, not least her greater beam - a product of her shallow draft. The interior design layout was developed by Dubois in conjunction with the owner and the styling, by Josep Juanpere Mire of GCA Arquitectes is particularly beautiful and well developed.
