Kokomo - 40 metre Fast Sloop
This is the seventh Dubois project that Alloy Yachts has
built - a successful team, and one where shared experience lent great confidence.
The extra length and beam of this craft allowed a fresh look at layout.
This
manifested itself in a new lobby arrangement in the aft accommodations
area.
Entered by a stairway from the upper pilothouse, the lobby eliminates
the corridor from the main saloon used on previous, smaller designs. The
lobby gives access to the full-width owner's suite and two spacious
half-width guest suites.
Extensive crew accommodation is also provided forward with three good
cabins, all with ensuites.
Extensive research at the Wolfson Unit of Southampton University went into
Kokomo's hull-shape and underwater foils. Work at the unit, where Team New
Zealand conducted its America's Cup testing, resulted in a sparkling
performance from this elegant yacht.
An easily driven hull, excellent lift to drag properties, high stability
and
a keel and spade rudder configuration which permit excellent
maneuverability
are all notable performance features.
Increasing interest in superyacht fun regattas makes performance a key
element in the design of these yachts. On her first outing at the New
Zealand Millennium Cup, Kokomo showed her pedigree by out sailing several
larger vessels.
Whether racing or cruising, the combination of speed, comfort and safety
give this yacht an edge over the competition.
