Whirlaway, a 42.9 m. (140.8’) fast cruising sloop, is currently under construction at Vitters Shipyard in Holland. Her launch is scheduled for early 2003.

The design brief called for a timeless design with beautiful lines but performance has not been sacrificed for appearance. Notable features of the design are the hull shape and underwater appendages.

Wind tunnel testing was conducted on a variety of keel bulb and centreboard arrangements with the objective being to reduce the skin friction and viscous drag of the bulb whilst maximizing the effective draft by reducing induced drag. The design incorporates a retracting centreboard to ensure outstanding upwind performance.

Whirlaway is set to become the fastest yacht of her type in the world.
