SilverTip, a 33.8 m. (111.0’) high performance sloop, is the second Dubois design for the same European client. She was launched, 8th June 2001, from Yachting Developments Ltd., New Zealand.
SilverTip has been awarded the highly prestigious 2002 Showboats Award for the Best Sailing Yacht under 38 metres. The Award will be presented in Monaco on 27th June.
SilverTip’s design has been the subject of tank and wind tunnel tests. Constructed from a high performance composite, she represents a high performance cruising yacht capable of winning races.
The yacht has a streamlined superstructure. Aft of the mast is a “blister” that emerges from the flush deck. This gives protection to the cockpit area and good headroom below decks.
SilverTip’s keel shows a 4.3 metre draft. Incorporated is a carbon fibre dagger board, which extends the draft to 6.9 metres. Her excellent upwind performance is a result of combining the hull form with the specified high roach mainsail and blade jib. The carbon rig is by Southern Spars and the sails are from North NZ.
SilverTip’s below decks layout is conventional, with the Owner’s cabin aft, two guest cabins, a navigation area, saloon and forward crew accommodation and galley.
However, while the vessel is aimed at performance cruising with the ability to acquit her very well in the occasional race, comfort below decks has also been a priority. Interior styling is by Agnes Comar, Paris. Proper attention was given to soundproofing and on board luxury.
