Desirade 4 was designed for her owner in 1994 and launched by Pendennis Shipyard in 1996. The brief was for supreme seaworthiness, speed under sail, elegant lines and comfort at sea.

Although significantly longer at 39m, she is similar in design concept to the highly successful Imagine (33.6m) - launched 3 years earlier, but with a fourth guest cabin and third crew cabin.
