Alcanara

29.1m Sloop

Overview

This design, for an Australian client, was built by Steve Ward in Perth, W.A.

The owners wanted a thoroughly seaworthy, elegant and fast cruising yacht at just under the 100 foot mark, with a superstructure that had a contemporary look.

Her interior was designed by Rhoades Young and looked to evoke a relaxed, light and sophisticated feel.
German birch wood with teak, stainless steel and coffee leather trim is used throughout the yacht.  All timbers have been specially treated to resist yellowing, leaving a bright and light interior.
An expensive mix of Italian fabrics and marble has been used throughout the yacht, with custom carpets manufactured especially for Alcanara in pure New Zealand wool.

We were very happy to have this yacht built by Steve Ward in W.A.  The last Dubois-designed yacht built by this yard was the 2 tonner Police Car, in 1979. This yacht went on to win the Admiral's Cup for Australia in that year and many other trophies besides. It could be argued that she put our design company on the World racing yacht scene. 26 years on, it was great to have the same builder construct another Dubois design from the same material - aluminium - but little else is similar to the spartan 42 foot racer that Steve built in 10 weeks!
